Applying the Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation Manual in Florida is an eight-hour correspondence course
designed for Florida-licensed Professional Surveyors and Mappers. The course is based on the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers publication Regional Supplement to the Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation Manual: Atlantic and
Gulf Coastal Plain Region (Version 2.0, November 2010), which is the controlling federal wetland delineation
guidance applicable throughout the State of Florida.
The course provides an educational and interpretive overview of the technical criteria used to identify wetlands
under federal guidance, including hydrophytic vegetation, hydric soils, and wetland hydrology, with particular
emphasis on conditions commonly encountered in Florida. The course also addresses problematic and atypical
situations such as disturbed sites, managed landscapes, seasonal limitations, and conflicting field indicators.
This course is not intended to train surveyors to act as wetland regulators or to perform jurisdictional
determinations. Instead, it is designed to improve a surveyor’s understanding of wetland identification concepts,
terminology, and field indicators so that wetlands may be more readily recognized, site conditions more accurately
documented, and communications with environmental professionals and regulatory agencies more effective.
