Course Description:

Six-Hour Live Webinar for Florida Professional Surveyors and Mappers

Every Florida surveyor who prepares, reviews, or relies upon subdivision plats should have a thorough understanding of Chapter 177, Part I, Florida Statutes. This comprehensive six-hour webinar examines the statutory requirements that govern subdivision platting in Florida and explains how those requirements apply in everyday surveying practice.

The course follows Chapter 177, Part 1 from beginning to end, discussing the legal status of recorded plats, required boundary surveys, title certification, surveyor certifications, subdivision naming requirements, municipal and county approvals, dedications, monumentation, drawing standards, recording requirements, and the procedures for vacating or annulling plats. Recent statutory changes affecting plat approvals will also be discussed.

Rather than simply reading the statute, the webinar explains what each provision means to the practicing surveyor, why the requirement exists, and how proper compliance helps avoid delays, rejected plats, and professional liability. Practical examples and instructor commentary throughout the program will help participants better understand Florida's subdivision laws and apply them with confidence.

Whether you are an experienced practitioner or newer to subdivision work, this webinar provides an excellent review of one of the most important statutes affecting the practice of land surveying in Florida.

Topics Include:

  • Purpose and scope of Chapter 177, Part I
  • Legal effect of recorded subdivision plats
  • Boundary survey and title certification requirements
  • Surveyor certifications and professional responsibilities
  • Subdivision naming and replat requirements
  • Municipal and county approval procedures
  • Dedication of streets, easements, and public areas
  • Plat preparation standards and drawing requirements
  • Monumentation requirements and monument deferrals
  • Recording procedures
  • Vacating and annulling subdivision plats
  • Recent statutory updates affecting plat approvals
