Course Description:

FL Land Surveying Standards of Practice, an Interactive Webinar is a live virtual classroom continuing education event presented by Land Pro Seminars (Florida CE provider #CE-53). The course provides a detailed overview of Florida’s current Standards of Practice rules for professional surveyors and mappers, as codified in Florida Administrative Code (F.A.C.) sections 5J-17.050, 5J-17.051, 5J-17.052, and 5J-17.053. Instructor David Melvin, PLS, offers commentary and analysis alongside the full text of these rules to help licensees interpret and understand their professional responsibilities. The course is designed to ensure that Florida-licensed surveyors and mappers are knowledgeable about the definitions, general survey/map/report content requirements, boundary survey standards, and professional/ethical obligations set by the Board. By studying this material, practitioners will be better prepared to apply the standards in their daily work and to produce surveying deliverables that meet or exceed the minimum requirements in accuracy, completeness, quality, and integrity.

Course Learning Objectives:

v  Identify key definitions (boundary survey, work product, benchmark, etc.) and explain their significance.

v  Summarize the general survey, map, and report content requirements (accuracy, datum references, documentation, communication).

v  Explain the specific standards of practice for boundary surveys, including research, monumentation, documentation of discrepancies, and water boundaries.

v  Outline the professional practice rules (conflicts of interest, fair dealing, confidentiality, use of others’ work, record retention, signing and sealing).

v  Apply Florida’s Standards of Practice to practical scenarios and recognize compliance/ethical issues.

v  Use provided checklists to evaluate survey maps/reports for compliance with the Standards of Practice.
